The Sony PlayStation 3 released worldwide on Nov. 17, 2006 and retail stores across America had consumers lined up to be the first to purchase the popular video game console. According to Sony, about one million PS3 units per month will be released worldwide through the end of 2006.
Launched three days later on Nov. 19, 2006, about 4 million Wii consoles will be available between now and the end of the year. The vast majority of the Wii units are allotted to North America. According to Nintendo, the company intends to keep store shelves replenished throughout the busy Christmas holiday shopping season.
